Ostravská univerzita přijala pozvání univerzity Varšavské a stala se součástí nové univerzitní sítě – Collegium Carpathicum – která sdružuje sedm univerzit a vysokých škol karpatského regionu: vedle Varšavské univerzity, jejíž Ústav východoevropských studií byl iniciátorem vzniku celého sdružení, v konsorciu spolupracujeme s Katolickou univerzitou Pétera Pázmányho v Budapešti, Prešovskou univerzitou, Univerzitou Vasyla Stefanyka v Ivanofrankivsku na Ukrajině, s Vysokou školou východoevropskou v polském Przemyslu a s již zmíněnou Univerzitou Stefana cel Mare v Suceavě v Rumunsku. Spolupráce univerzit se rozvíjí s podporou projektu visegrádského fondu a soustředí se na výměnu přednášejících, odborníků v oblasti přírodovědné i humanitní. Každý semestr vyšle univerzita dva ze svých odborníků na přednáškový pobyt a dva či více přednášejících se představí u nás.
Prof. Mindrescu je prvním hostem, který k nám v rámci sítě Collegium Carpathicum zavítá.

Introducing prof. Mindrescu:
The main focus of the Marcel’s research is the study of glacial relief and lacustrine sediments from the Romanian Carpathians. He introduced the detailed morphometric analysis of landforms, which resulted in the creation of a morphometric and morphographic database comprising all glacial cirques from the Romanian Carpathians (631 items). He first introduced and developed the analysis of lake sediments (palaeolimnology) as a standalone topic in the Romanian school of geography. He is member of the scientific steering Commitee of Science for Carpathians and he was elected chair of South East Europe Mountain Research (SEEMoRe/Mountain Research Initiative). Marcel is guest editor for the Web of Science journal Quaternary International for which he has lead the publication of few special issue dedicated to climate change in the Carpathian­-Blakan area. He is also chief editor of international journal Georeview. He has participated to several international scientific expeditions for glacial geomorphology and glacial lake survey, such as: Himalaya (2011) and British Columbia (2014).
Marcel Mindrescu is very invested in promoting cooperation and interdisciplinarity in geoscience in the Central-East Europe and Carpathian-Balkan area, especially, as illustrated by the various scientific meetings tackling this region organized by him and his closest collaborators, as well as by the Carpathian-Balkan Working Group (member of Past Global Changes/PAGES).
