Following the success of the first edition, which drew hundreds of visitors to the City Campus, the University of Ostrava, in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Education, is preparing to follow up with an even more diverse program, once again supported by a strong partnership with the University Hospital in Ostrava.
Prevention remains the main theme of the entire event. As last year’s event demonstrated, interest in free screenings and consultations is enormous – and can often lead to the early detection of health issues.
Health Under Control: Screenings That Make a Difference
Visitors can look forward to a wide range of screening tests that have a real impact on daily life. For example, there will be eye exams, allowing you to check whether your eyes can keep up with the pace of today’s digital age, as well as skin mole checks, which are among the key tools for preventing serious diseases.
Another major attraction will be the opportunity to find out your blood type in collaboration with the Blood Center of the University Hospital Ostrava. This experience often sparks greater interest in blood donation – and can be the first step toward saving someone’s life.
The Center for Preventive Medicine and the Center for Telemedicine Services at University Hospital Ostrava will also play an important role, offering an expert perspective on health in a broader context. Visitors will thus receive not only numbers and results, but also recommendations on how to take care of themselves in a meaningful and long-term way.
The Body in Motion: Workshops and Modern Diagnostics
But health isn’t just about medical exams. This year’s Health Day will place even greater emphasis on physical activity as a fundamental pillar of well-being. There will be six exercise workshops led by physical therapists, offering practical tips on how to exercise properly, stretch, or compensate for one-sided strain.
Participants will also be able to undergo body composition analysis or handgrip strength testing, which help provide a better understanding of their own physical condition. Such measurements show that health is not just about weight, but about the body’s overall balance. Individual nutritional counseling (for registered participants only) will also be available for the first time, supervised by experienced nutrition specialists from the Faculty of Medicine.
Medicine Firsthand (Literally)
One of the most attractive features of this year’s program will be interactive stations that bring medicine up close. Thanks to virtual reality, participants will be able to find themselves in an operating room and try working with surgical instruments, or take a real-life look inside one of the Emergency Medical Service vehicles, which will be available outside the building entrance.
Experience modern training in neurosurgery and nursing procedures in virtual reality. Interactive simulations provide a realistic operating room environment, allow you to work with surgical instruments, and let you practice the individual steps of a procedure safely and without risk to the patient. This activity demonstrates how virtual reality is transforming healthcare education and helping to increase healthcare professionals’ confidence and readiness for real-world clinical practice.
There will also be a vaccination information desk, offering a space to ask the questions we often keep to ourselves – whether they concern travel, current recommendations, or a personalized approach to health – as well as interesting lectures highlighting modern trends in health and nutrition.
Everyone Can Help
A major new feature of this year’s event is the involvement of the Bone Marrow Donor Registry, which will offer the opportunity to take a crucial step toward saving someone else’s life. Registration is quick, simple, and can have a huge impact.
Health Day thus demonstrates once again that health care is not just an individual matter, but also a question of solidarity and responsibility toward others.
A Day That Can Make a Difference
Health Day at the University of Ostrava is not just a collection of booths and screenings. It is a space where science, practice, and everyday life come together. A space where you can calmly ask yourself: How am I actually doing – and what can I do for myself today?
Whether you come for a specific exam, for inspiration, or just out of curiosity, one thing is certain – you’ll leave with something extra.
